MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A South Florida father is facing charges after his children were found with drugs in their system.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said it took 56-year-old Jose Aguilar Hernandez into custody on Wednesday.
According to authorities, Hernandez contacted emergency services on Tuesday after finding his sons, ages 11 and 9, unresponsive in their west Miami-Dade home.
The following day, deputies said an investigator from the Department of Children and Families went to the home and tested both children for drugs; both came back positive for cocaine.
According to an arrest form, investigators determined the children ingested the drugs while under the care of Hernandez, who deputies said was the only adult with the children at the time.
He was arrested on a felony charge of child neglect with no great bodily harm and taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond is listed as “to be set.”
