MIAMI — A three-car crash in Miami left a 79-year-old man dead early Friday morning, police said.
Authorities said the man was driving when his vehicle was struck by another car at the intersection of Northwest Seventh Street and 31st Avenue.
They said he was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where his condition was listed as critical. He later died, police confirmed.
MFR officials said two other men were also hurt in the crash.
They said a 35-year-old man involved in the crash was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in stable condition, while a 31-year-old man was also taken to JMH’s Ryder Trauma Center. His condition was not immediately known.
“It happened like a month ago,” he said. “Two weeks ago, another accident like that happened.”
A Local 10 News crew was at the scene, where one car crashed through a green metal fence, its hazard lights still flashing and its rear window shattered. A white vehicle was also completely destroyed, with heavy dents and the driver’s-side door nearly torn off.
A third vehicle, a pickup truck, appeared to have slammed into a light pole, leaving significant front-end damage.
Investigators said the crash began with the pickup truck driver sideswiping a Nissan Sentra, causing its driver to “lose control and veer off the road and into the lot of a nearby car dealership.”
The pickup truck driver then crossed into the opposite lanes of traffic, hitting the 79-year-old head-on in his Ford Crown Victoria, police said.
Jose Lagos, who works nearby, sad to see the crash happen and crashes similar to Friday’s incident are common along the stretch of road near Little Havana and Flagami.
The crash has left lanes blocked in the area, and drivers are advised to take the Julia Tuttle Causeway.
Miami police are investigating the cause of the crash. They said charges for the pickup truck driver “remain pending while the driver awaits medical clearance.”
