During a news conference, he referenced a letter that was written by the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops seeking the pause.

“Give people these two weeks to be with their families without fear of being arrested or taken into custody and ending up at Alligator Alcatraz or at Krome or other places to await deportation,” Wenski said.

He continued, “It is a very simple request, a pause, during the Christmas holidays that can help lower the temperature in our nation and also it will help the families of the community to be together to celebrate Christmas with their families and to celebrate of the Prince of Peace in our midst.”

“The main point today is let’s hit a pause,” Wenski said. “Don’t be the Grinch that stole Christmas.”

Local 10 News contacted the White House and DeSantis’ office seeking comment and had not heard back as of the publication of this article.
