Georgia jail escapees captured in Miramar after kidnapping Lyft driver, binding her with rope: Feds

Georgia escapees kidnap, bind Lyft driver, take her to South Florida: Feds

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Three men accused of escaping a metro Atlanta jail have been captured in South Florida ― and they are accused of taking an unwilling rideshare driver along for a terrifying ride.

Federal court documents reveal several shocking details about an unbelievable night.

Investigators said the trio kidnapped a Lyft driver in Atlanta, tied her up, and drove her all the way to Broward County.

The three men are back in custody after escaping the DeKalb County, Georgia, jail Monday night.

“We were able to use the intelligence of the U.S. Marshals Service to track that movement. No need to talk about how and what we used, just that we are the U.S. Marshals and we have ways to track,” U.S. Marshal Thomas Brown said.

Officials say Stevenson Charles, 24, Yusuf Minor, 31, and Noad Yohannes, 25, somehow managed to break out of the jail before being picked up by someone on the outside.

They went to Minor’s girlfriend’s place, where she ordered them a Lyft.

According to court documents, the Lyft driver took them to a destination in Atlanta. When they arrived, one of the men wrapped a rope around her neck, then tied her up and forced her into the back seat, where they continued to threaten her while driving her car to Florida.

Authorities said that at one point, she tried to get away but could not. That is when the threats became even more violent.

Eventually, they made their way to Miramar, where they used the Lyft driver’s credit cards to purchase a short-term rental, authorities said.

Law enforcement eventually caught up to them after getting several license plate reader hits for the stolen car.

“As you can imagine, the Lyft driver is very traumatized by this,” an official said.

The Lyft driver is being interviewed by the FBI. The three men are back in custody at the Broward Jail and are expected to face additional charges.
