HOMESTEAD, Fla. — Homestead police on Tuesday arrested a 24-year-old woman in connection with a stabbing that they said left a man wounded last month.
The suspect was identified by police as Ivette Isabel Padilla, of Miami.
The incident happened around 6:15 a.m. on Nov. 22 at a residence near the 1500 block of Southeast 24th Court.
Police said officers responding to reports of a stabbing found the victim sitting on the floor with heavy bleeding from his head.
He told officers he had been stabbed on the side of his head. Officers said they also found Padilla lying in the roadway with severe bleeding from multiple stab wounds to her upper torso.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue treated both individuals at the scene.
Authorities said the victim was taken by ground to Jackson South Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition. They said Padilla was airlifted to the same hospital and later underwent surgery.
According to investigators, the victim told police that Padilla was the former girlfriend of his cousin and that she confronted him while he was sleeping in his bedroom.
He said he woke up to a sharp pain in his head and saw Padilla on top of him armed with a pocketknife, her arrest report stated.
A struggle followed, and police said the victim was eventually able to escape and leave the house to seek help.
They said the victim’s mother reported seeing Padilla armed with a knife and later observed her stab herself multiple times outside the home. Investigators also reviewed surveillance footage showing Padilla’s vehicle entering the community.
Based on the investigation, Padilla was taken into custody on Tuesday after she was medically cleared, the report stated.
Jail records show Padilla faces one count each of attempted felony murder with a firearm or weapon and armed burglary.
As of Wednesday morning, she was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where her bond was listed as “to be set.”
A motive for the stabbing remains unclear at this time.
