MARATHON, Fla. — A pickup truck driver hit and killed a 7-year-old North Carolina girl riding a bicycle with her mother in Marathon on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The incident happened just before 3 p.m. outside the Valero gas station at 7301 Overseas Highway.
According to an FHP report released on Wednesday, the girl and her mother were riding their bikes on the sidewalk and crossing the street when a 68-year-old man, driving a Ford F-250, hit the young girl as he exited the gas station to make a right turn onto U.S. 1, killing her.
Authorities have not released the names of the girl or the driver.
The report states that alcohol was “not a factor and the investigation is ongoing,” with troopers additionally noting that “charges are pending.”
