PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. — A Pembroke Park mother says a group of young boys stole a Christmas package from outside her apartment just minutes after it was delivered, all of it captured on her home surveillance cameras.
The woman said she received an alert about the delivery around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and went back to review her cameras at about 4:41 p.m., but the package was already gone.
When she checked the footage further, she said she saw a group of boys cutting through the apartment complex. Around 5:07 p.m., one of the boys jumped a fence and grabbed the package.
Inside the Macy’s bag were pants she had purchased as Christmas gifts for her daughter and niece. She said one of the five boys took the package, and the group could be seen laughing, passing it around and grabbing items from inside. At one point, one of the boys appeared to hold up the pants and mock them.
Her surveillance cameras recorded the entire incident.
The woman said the cameras are running all the time and that over the weekend, they also captured what appeared to be the same group of kids throwing rocks at windows in the complex.
“I think those are the same kids,” a man can be heard saying in the video.
What upset her most, she said, was not just the stolen gifts, but how young the boys appeared to be.
“I’m a mom, and I would like someone to tell me if my kids were doing that,” she said. “When I see them, it breaks my heart because they’re young kids. I don’t even think the oldest is 14.”
After the stolen package became the final straw, the woman contacted Pembroke Park police for help.
She said officers told her they would look into the incident and advised her to call again if she sees the boys in the area.
