DAVIE, Fla. — A woman has died after a two-story apartment erupted in flames Friday morning, according to the town’s police department.

Authorities said they arrived at Ellsworth Apartments, located near the 6800 block of College Court Manor, where they found a woman dead at scene.

Davie Fire Rescue said crews encountered heavy smoke conditions and quickly brought the fire under control.

“Due to the extent of fire and smoke damage, residents from surrounding units are being evacuated as a precautionary measure until the structure is deemed safe for reentry,” a DFR spokeperson told Local 10 News.

Local 10’s Jolena Esperto was at the scene where Davie firefighters set up a blue tent and brought items in and out of the apartment.

They said the State Fire Marshal’s Office as been notified and will investigate the cause of the blaze.

Sky 10 flew over the scene just before 10:30 a.m., where first responders were putting up crime scene tape.

Investigators have not release the woman’s age or identity pending next of kin.

DFR said the American Red Cross will assist the displaced residents with available support services.
