OAKLAND PARK, Fla. — Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies on Thursday announced a 37-year-old man’s arrest after allegedly stabbing his pregnant wife at an Oakland Park apartment complex earlier this week.
The stabbing was reported around 12:55 a.m. Tuesday at a first-floor apartment near the 100 block of Northeast 41st Street, according to BSO.
Local 10 News on Friday obtained 911 calls that were made as the incident was unfolding.
In one call, Mario Alejandro Ramirez told dispatchers there were three children inside the apartment and confirmed the situation had turned physical during what deputies described as a “domestic dispute.”
Deputies said they encountered Ramirez at the apartment and struggled with him as they attempted to apply pressure to stop his bleeding from what appeared to be a self-inflicted injury.
Fire rescue crews found Fayanni Ramirez inside the apartment suffering from stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Oakland Park Fire Rescue.
Investigators confirmed she was pregnant and lived in the apartment with the couple’s three children.
Neighbors described hearing loud arguments and disturbances coming from the apartment prior to the stabbing.
“It sounded like furniture hitting and there was a lot of screaming,” one neighbor told Local 10 News.
Authorities said Fayanni Ramirez had an active restraining order against her husband at the time of the attack due to a similar prior incident.
Crime scene photos showed blood splattered on a window, and deputies and the medical examiner’s office used a blue tarp to cover the woman’s body.
Jail records Ramirez is facing one count of murder, described as dangerous and depraved without premeditation.
Mario Ramirez was placed on an immigration hold without bond after appearing before a judge on Friday. He was also ordered to have medical and mental health evaluations.
Investigators say the motive remains unclear.
