OPA-LOCKA, Fla. — A man who is accused of stealing a car in Miramar was arrested in Opa-locka after being spotted by police and fleeing from them, authorities said.
According to the suspect’s arrest report, Anthony Rudolpph Clinch, 44, of Miami, was arrested Monday on charges of grand theft of a vehicle, burglary of an occupied structure, interference/disruption of an educational institution and resisting an officer without violence.
The report states that the stolen vehicle was tracked Monday via GPS to the parking lot of a Burger King located at 13705 NW 27th Ave. in Opa-locka, but the vehicle was unoccupied when an officer responded.
Police said the Opa-locka police officer went to a nearby gas station and watched the car from a distance with the assistance of a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy.
According to the report, another responding officer then spotted the suspect, who police said fled eastbound on foot toward the Family Christian Association of America building, where Head Start and Early Start classes are held.
Police said Clinch entered the building where students were present and a lockdown was initiated.
After going to the second floor, he eventually fled the property, heading westbound before eventually being taken into custody after entering the yard of a home, authorities said.
According to the report, Clinch initially gave a false name to officers.
As of Tuesday morning, he remained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Online jail records listed his total bond as “to be set.”
