MIAMI — Demonstrators gathered in Minneapolis on Wednesday after Renee Nicole Good, a Minneapolis woman, was shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent earlier that morning.

“I, like many people, saw a horrifying execution today,” said Kat Duesterhaus, who attended the demonstration. “I’m horrified. ICE is terrifying our communities.”

Good’s death comes amid rising tensions over ICE raids during a nationwide immigration crackdown. Protesters described the shooting as the latest escalation tied to controversial federal enforcement actions.

“They’re not acting as a law enforcement agency so much as they are acting as a criminal organization,” said Martin Vidal. “We’re here to demand it stops.”

Demonstrations took place across the country, including in Minneapolis and New York City, as crowds chanted and called for changes to immigration enforcement.

“Everyone should be concerned,” one demonstrator said. “If they think this only affects noncitizens — look at today. That was a citizen.”

The agents involved operate under the supervision of the Department of Homeland Security. Locally, demonstrators called for abolishing ICE and ending federal enforcement operations, including those underway in Florida.

“I think it was only a matter of time,” Duesterhaus said. “With how many untrained or poorly trained agents — civilians they are turning into agents — it’s just a recipe for disaster.”

Protesters also called for the elimination of statewide 287(g) agreements, which allow local law enforcement agencies to assist ICE operations.

“They should absolutely be cut,” Vidal said. “A lot of the law enforcement agencies haven’t even wanted to participate, but they’ve been coerced by the state.”

While Democrats condemned the incident, the Trump administration defended the agents’ actions.

“I think the history books are going to be studying what happened in America right now,” Duesterhaus said.
