Girl Scout cookie season returns to Southeast Florida

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. — A warehouse in Deerfield Beach has been transformed into a massive cookie distribution center as girl scout cookie sale season gets underway.

The Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida distributed about 600,000 boxes, with lines of cars stretching more than a mile.

While the cookies are popular, leaders say the program is really about teaching girls real-life skills.

Many scouts say selling cookies helps them build confidence and teamwork.

“I’ve learned about friendship and teamwork and I learned a lot of skills like archery and canoeing,” said girl scout Parker Nwaobi.

Seven-year-old Raine Mullen is already a top seller, moving nearly 1,900 boxes last year with help from her family. Parents say they’ve seen their children grow more confident and aware through the program.

Cookie sales start Monday.

Boxes are $6 each and include favorites like Thin Mints, plus a new flavor this year called ExploreMores.
