MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A man is facing a felony charge and potential deportation after a fatal crash in Miami-Dade’s rural Redland area over the weekend.

The wreck happened along Southwest 320th Street, near 202nd Avenue, at around 7:25 p.m. Sunday.

Investigators with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said Erick Rolando Chan-Guarcas, 30, of southwest Miami-Dade, was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Silverado and swerved into the opposite lane, hitting a woman in a Honda Accord.

Medics airlifted the victim, whose name and age weren’t listed in an MDSO report, to Jackson South Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, deputies said.

Deputies said they determined that Chan-Guarcas, a Guatemalan national, “had never received a Florida driver’s license” and was in the country illegally.

Chan-Guarcas, who was also hurt in the crash and taken to Jackson South, was arrested on a felony charge of driving without a license causing death.

Pictured in his Miami-Dade booking photo sporting a large, bloody gash on his forehead, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $50,000 bond and an immigration hold, online records show.
