MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Local 10 News obtained body cam footage from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday showing a deputy shooting during an armed carjacking that involved three teenagers in southwest Miami-Dade late last year.
The incident occurred on Nov. 3 outside Empire Fitness Club, 27950 SW 127th Ave., when MDSO deputies said three suspects carjacked a woman sitting in her black Chevy Tahoe while she waited for her son’s training class to end.
According to arrest reports, the suspects were identified as Stephan Jones, 18; Tyquawn Davis, 18; and King Gage, 16.
The video shows Jones telling deputies that he had been shot and asking for an ambulance. Moments later, an AK-47 he was carrying is visible on camera.
Deputies said one suspect approached the passenger side with a gun while the victim used her cellphone, and another armed suspect demanded her car keys through the driver’s side door. A third suspect also approached the vehicle during the carjacking.
They said the woman ran into the gym for help and tracked her stolen SUV using the Chevrolet mobile app. Deputies spotted the vehicle near 2300 Southeast Palm Drive, where the suspects exited and fled.
Authorities said Jones was treated at Jackson South Medical Center before being taken to jail. Gage denied involvement before all three teenagers were taken into custody.
Jail recors show Davis faces charges of armed robbery/carjacking and resisting an officer without violence. Jones was placed on house arrest and faces one count each of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, improper exhibition of a weapon, and resisting an officer without violence. Gage is also facing one count of restisting an officer without violence.
Records show Jones was being held on a $15,000 bond at a jail outside of Miami-Dade County, while Davis’ bond information wasn’t immediately available. Gage was not listed as an inmate on Miami-Dade’s jail website.
MDSO said the video was released to provide transparency and help the community understand what led to the shooting.
