MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A person was taken to the hospital after a car plunged into a canal in west Miami-Dade on Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The crash happened on a northbound ramp leading to Florida’s Turnpike, just south of Sweetwater. Tire tracks and mud showed where the car left the roadway and entered the water.
Emergency crews, including dive teams, searched the submerged car.
A Local 10 News crew was at the scene when the car was pulled from the canal and removed by a tow truck several hours later.
Authorities said the person involved in the crash was rescued from the water and transported to a hospital for evaluation. His or her age or condition was not immediately known.
Traffic on the ramp was briefly slowed but no major delays were reported. Authorities are investigating what caused the car to leave the roadway.
