MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A man from southwest Miami-Dade was arrested Wednesday after deputies say he abused his 10-year-old son.
The suspect was identified in an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office as 30-year-old Devon Foster.
The report stated that the boy told investigators the incident occurred about two weeks before winter break after he went to a lake behind his home despite being told not to.
He said shortly after, Foster confronted him and struck him with a hanger and an extension cord on his back and buttocks, according to deputies.
Deputies said the alleged abuse came to light Wednesday at the child’s school, where a teacher noticed visible injuries while the student was removing his jacket and partially lifted his shirt.
They said the student later told his teacher that he had been beaten.
Detectives responded to the school and interviewed the boy, who reiterated that he had been attacked by his father. The detective observed marks on the boy’s back, chest and buttocks, according to the report.
Foster later arrived at the school to pick up his son and was detained by deputies who took him to MDSO’s South District station for questioning.
After being read his Miranda rights, Foster denied abusing the child and claimed the injuries “may have been caused by another child, not an adult.”
Jail records show he is facing one count of aggravated child abuse causing great bodily harm.
As of Thursday, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
