MIAMI — Police arrested two men earlier this week for shooting off a high-powered gun in an area where people could have been in the line of fire.
It happened at approximately 5:27 a.m. on Tuesday in the area of the 300 block of Northeast 78th Street in Miami’s Little River neighborhood.
Police have since arrested Kevin Dovman, 19, of New York City, and Daniel Collins, 23, of Miami.
According to Miami police, officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert at the scene and during their investigation, found surveillance footage that showed two men shooting a high-powered gun “without regard for human life or property.”
Officers also found used shell casings where the footage showed the shooting taking place, police said.
The video showed the suspects getting into a black SUV, and shortly after the shooting, a detective who was searching the area located the SUV and observed the suspects getting out and going in to an apartment wearing the same clothes they were seen in the video of the shooting, according to an arrest form.
Officers conducted a traffic stop and took the suspects into custody.
Police said they recovered a black .223-caliber AR-style pistol.
Police charged Dovman and Collins with facing felony counts of shooting or throwing a deadly missile, as well as misdemeanor charges for criminal mischief and discharging a firearm outdoors.
Officers also arrested Collins, whose occupation is listed in an arrest report as “social media,” on an additional felony charge of a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
Both were taken to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without incident.
