Police took Russell Baldwin, 48, into custody on Wednesday, Jan. 15.

The crash occurred on Oct. 10, 2025, at the intersection of West Sample Road and Woodside Drive.

Police said a vehicle being driven by Baldwin, a 2015 silver Chevrolet Impala, collided with the victim’s vehicle, a 2024 black Toyota Corolla, which was heavily damaged on the passenger side.

According to investigators, the Corolla was traveling east on Sample Road and while making a left to go north on Woodside Drive, it was struck on the passenger side by the Impala, which was going west on Sample Road and being driven by Baldwin.

When officers arrived, they said they found two people injured in the Corolla, one of whom did not survive, but nobody was in the Impala.

After collecting DNA evidence from inside the Impala, investigators said they were able to ascertain that Baldwin had likely been driving the car at the time of the crash.

Jail records show he was arrested by police on two charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving death and a charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage and was given a total bond of $210,000.

Baldwin was not listed among Broward County jail inmates as of Wednesday morning.
