POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — Sky 10 flew over Festival Marketplace Friday morning as demolition began at the once-bustling shopping destination, located at 2900 W. Sample Road.
Construction crews were seen tearing down portions of the sprawling property at 11;40 a.m., which for decades housed dozens of small, family-owned businesses under one roof.
The demolition comes over six months after business owners on June 1, 2025, vacated the longtime marketplace, a staple for residents and visitors for nearly 40 years.
Hilda Vargas de Matthews, owner of La La Chic, told Local 10 back in May 2025 that she plans to relocate her business to the Shoppes at Deerfield after leaving the market by the end of the month.
“This is really such a beautiful place of business,” she said at the time.
Once home to boutiques, jewelers, eateries and specialty shops, much of the marketplace had already been emptied in recent months, leaving rows of vacant vendor booths and a largely empty parking lot before demolition began.
According to Foundry Commercial, which is developing the property, the site will be transformed into three warehouse buildings designed for small- to medium-sized tenants, with direct exposure along Sample Road and access to Florida’s Turnpike.
In a statement provided to Local 10 back in May, a company representative said the project is expected to create new jobs and contribute to the local economy and that the development is still moving through Pompano Beach’s site plan review process.
The company did not provide a specific date of when the property will reopen.
