POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — A police pursuit ended in a crash on Interstate 95 in Pompano Beach on Friday morning, leading to a massive backup.
It happened in the southbound lanes of I-95 near Atlantic Boulevard.
Video from Sky 10 showed a vehicle turned on its side, along with a long backup leading to the crash scene and multiple Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies present, along with fire rescue crews.
BSO spokesperson Miranda Grossman said it all started at around 11 a.m. in Deerfield Beach, when a suspect assaulted deputies investigating a theft at a business in the 300 block of West Hillsboro Boulevard and then fled.
After the chase ended on I-95, Grossman said the “suspect was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”
Officials said that as of 12:30 p.m., the interstate was “shut down until further notice” and they asked drivers to take alternate routes while the investigation continued.
