MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — A man is facing 17 felony charges after authorities said he and another suspect stole store-branded credit card information from more than a dozen victims in multiple states and went on spending sprees in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
According to an arrest report, the charges against Dancliff Labady, 32, of Miami Gardens, largely center on the use of stolen TJX Companies–branded credit card information to make purchases at its stores: T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies said Labady worked with a man named Gerome Douglas in the scheme, though it wasn’t immediately clear whether Douglas was in custody or facing charges Wednesday.
According to MDSO, the months-long scheme racked up nearly $100,000 in charges.
Investigators said the suspects gained unauthorized access to victims’ credit card accounts by contacting card issuer Synchrony Bank, fraudulently adding their own phone numbers to the accounts and then using one-time passcodes to load the cards into digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Wallet.
They would then use the virtual cards to buy gift cards at various stores, deputies said. Besides TJX cards, authorities said they accessed other Synchrony-issued accounts, including MyWalgreens and CareCredit cards.
Investigators said they identified the suspects using CCTV footage and details from a rental car they were using.
Deputies went to Labady’s home in the 19600 block of Northwest 11th Avenue to arrest him on fraud and grand theft charges on Tuesday.
As of Wednesday afternoon, he was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with a bond listed in online jail records as “to be set.”
