HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — South Floridians are bracing for some of the coldest weather the area has seen in a long time.
At three scoops ice cream in Hollywood, owner Ben Morad knows how to serve up a cold treat, but what mother nature is about to dish out is anything but sweet.
“Lately, it’s been OK, but we are expecting to get very cold, very soon,” Morad said.
Residents and business owners alike are preparing for a historic winter blast, with arctic air expected to sweep in this weekend, sending temperatures plunging and some locals scrambling for layers.
“I don’t know how many people are going to want cold ice cream, but we do have hot chocolate, we do have coffee and other warm things to keep them warm,” said Morad.
On the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk, some locals are mentally and physically preparing for the chill.
“We are certainly very scared because I’m not for the cold,” said Tamas Poos. “I like the sunshine and warm weather, so I’m going to be really, really dressed up, That’s for sure.
Broward County is extending its Cold Weather Emergency through Monday night, and offering nightly shelter for people experiencing homelessness.
Those needing a bed are urged to go to the Salvation Army in Fort Lauderdale. Space is limited.
