MONROE COUNTY, Fla. — A 60-year-old Delray Beach man identified as a member of the outlaw Pagan motorcycle gang was arrested Friday on Grassy Key in Marathon after deputies discovered he was wanted on drug and gun charges in another Florida county, authorities said.

John Ray Melvin was wanted in Palm Beach County on charges of cocaine possession and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies attempted to stop a group of motorcyclists near Mile Marker 58 on U.S. 1 around 3:15 p.m., but only one rider pulled over. That individual was cited for driving with a suspended license, authorities said.

The remaining riders continued to Kyle Avenue, where deputies said they blocked both the roadway and a nearby bicycle path.

“The Sheriff’s Office will continue to make gang-related crime a priority and I will not allow such groups to interfere in the lives of peaceful and law-abiding citizens,” wrote MCSO Sheriff Rick Ramsay in a news release on Saturday.

They said a records check later revealed active warrants for Melvin, who was taken into custody. His motorcycle was towed, and he was booked into jail.

Melvin’s bond information wasn’t immediately released.
