South Florida airports see hundreds of delays, dozens of cancellation as Winter Storm Gianna hits

MIAMI — Winter Storm Gianna caused widespread flight disruptions at South Florida airports saturday, prompting a cold weather advisory as delays and cancellations mounted.

As of 2:15 p.m., Miami International Airport reported 212 delays affecting flights within, into, or out of the United States. A total of 49 flights had been canceled.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport also experienced significant impacts, reporting 128 delays and 39 cancellations by midafternoon.

In a post on X Saturday afternoon, MIA officials urged travelers to check their flight status with airlines before heading to the airport. Officials also warned of record low temperatures expected Sunday, advising employees and travelers to dress warmly and allow extra travel time.

“Thank you for your patience as we navigate these weather-related challenges,” the post stated. “Stay safe and stay informed.”
