It happened around 11:20 a.m. Sunday at the Royal Caribbean Housing complex on the FIU Biscayne Bay Campus, located at 3000 NE 151st St.

FIU police identified the suspect as 46-year-old Adrian Russell.

They said Russell was involved in a “heated argument” with another individual in a parking lot at the housing area.

According to the report, Russell walked away from the scene, entered his vehicle, then returned with a gun visible on his side while making threats to harm the victim.

Officers said Russell’s actions “created a hazardous situation in an area populated by several individuals.”

Rather than leaving the area, the report stated that Russell escalated the confrontation by displaying the gun, “causing fear and disruption on campus.”

No injuries were reported.

Jail records show he is facing one count each of exhibiting a weapon or firearm on school property and aggravated assault with a firearm.

Authorities did not say whether the victim was connected to FIU, and a motive for the argument remains unclear.

As of Tuesday, Russell was being held on a $10,000 bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
