According to Hollywood Fire Rescue officials, the fire was reported at 5:48 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 2700 block of Johnson Street.

Officials said firefighters arrived at the scene and found an active fire coming from an AC unit on the second floor of the building, at the rear.

“The fire extended into the apartment but was quickly extinguished,” a spokesperson for the fire department told Local 10 in an email.

First responders confirmed that no occupants were inside the affected unit at the time and no civilian injuries were reported.

One firefighter, however, was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital “for observation of injuries unrelated to the fire,” the spokesperson said.

The American Red Cross will assist the homeowner of the affected apartment unit.

The resident, Kenris Butler, told Local 10 News that she was at work when she received a call from someone, telling her that her apartment was on fire.

“I left for work early in the morning and when I got to work, my manager came up to me to say to get home -- the fire marshal was trying to reach me because my place is on fire -– my house is on fire,” Butler said.

She said she is thankful no one was inside at the time.

“I’m extremely thankful that I do have my life,” Butler said. “Unfortunately, I only have the clothes on my back (and) in my car ... But I’m grateful to have my life -- other things, I can get --those are material things.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
