MIAMI — A Miami mother is facing a felony charge of child neglect after her daughter made some disturbing allegations to police.
Miami Police Special Victims Unit detectives were called to Kristi House, a children’s advocacy center in the city, on Tuesday afternoon after a therapist alerted officials about an 8-year-old girl who had a black eye.
The therapist told police the she had known the girl for several months, and that when she arrived for scheduled therapy session, the girl said her mother had punched her in the eye, according to an arrest report.
She has since been identified as Deisy Yamileth Martinez Garcia, 26, whose occupation was listed as housekeeper.
Authorities said in addition to the black eye, the girl told her therapist that her mother “brings men to the apartment, they get naked, they touch each other and it reminds her of what happened to her in the past.”
When speaking to detectives, police said the girl corroborated what she had told the therapist.
In addition, investigators also spoke with another woman who lives in the apartment with the girl and her mother.
The roommate told police on the date in question that Martinez Garcia came home with a man despite being told several times not to bring men back to the apartment, and that she was highly intoxicated.
Police said the roommate added that the young girl and her brother “approached her and stated they had not eaten and appeared soiled.”
They said when they spoke with Martinez Garcia, she gave inconsistent statements, but the specifics of what she told detectives was redacted from her arrest form. Martinez Garcia also told police she believed her roommate was coaching her daughter to make the statements about her mother.
Jail records show Martinez Garcia was arrested and taken to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where she remains behind bars on an immigration hold.
