It happened on Jan. 2 at the Holy Smokes smoke shop located at 1 S. Poinciana Blvd. in Miami Springs.

Video obtained by Local 10 News shows the suspect, identified as 17-year-old Jamari Gayot, entering a restricted area of the store while an employee had stepped away to take a break.

While inside the office, video shows Gayot stuffing several containers full of merchandise into his backpack before going out into the store, opening a glass cabinet and putting additional items into his backpack before fleeing the store.

“How brazen, our coworker was right next door,” said an employee who asked not to be identified. “(This took) less than four minutes.”

Miami Springs police said Gayot got away with vape cartridges and THCP marijuana flowers valued at a combined $1,800.

Three days later, officers were able to identify Gayot as the suspect in the crime after a MDSO Gang Unit detective said he had previously delt with someone who matched his description.

Detectives served a search warrant at Gayot’s home in Opa-locka and found evidence in his room linking him directly to the crime, including some of the items that were taken from the store.

“I hope you change your ways,” the employee said. “Best of luck to you.”

Gayot is facing felony charges of burglary of an occupied structure and third-degree grand theft.
