Investigators said Colby Erskin, 39, who was also a former math teacher and head football coach at South Plantation High School, was taken into custody Thursday by Seminole County deputies on a warrant out of Broward County.

Jail records show he is facing charges of solicitation of a child and transmission of harmful material to a minor.

Body camera video obtained by Local 10 News shows the moments that Erskin was taken into custody.

One of his alleged victims is the daughter of Yaniv Rosenberg, who says he was shocked to hear someone he trusted tried to harm his child.

“It hurts because you know there are monsters out there, you just don’t expect them to be in your circle,” Rosenberg said.

Rosenberg said his daughter first told him about Erskin’s messages, which included inappropriate texts and nude photos.

“My daughter was smart enough, thank God, to use her friend’s phone to take pictures and videos of what he was sending her, and then finally she had the courage to come to me and tell me what was going on,” he said.

Rosenberg, a jiu-jitsu sensei, said he had to rely on his training to stay calm while law enforcement tracked down Erskin.

“You are lucky because very bad things were going to happen to you,” he said in a message to Erskin.

Erskin’s employment history shows he worked at South Plantation High School as a mathematics teacher from August 2022 to August 2024.

He also served as a substitute teacher at various locations during January to August 2022 and earlier from 2014 to 2016. His most recent employment at Mount Dora High School ended when he was separated from the district.

The Lake County School District confirmed in a statement that Erskin is no longer employed and had been with the district for less than a month.

Erskin appeared before a Seminole County judge on Friday and is being held without bond.
