An arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirms that Jevon Hill, 29, who is currently homeless, was arrested Thursday on charges of second-degree murder and attempted armed robbery.

Deputies said the incident was reported at about 3:12 a.m. on June 11, 2025, at the Hamptons Village Apartments, located at 28000 NW 43rd Terrace.

According to the report, as deputies were arriving, they were flagged down by a woman who was covered in blood but was uninjured.

Deputies said the woman told them a man tried to rob her and another person in the stairwell of the apartment building.

Deputies said they then walked to the stairwell where they found Rory Lloyd Durden, 67, unresponsive, lying in a pool of blood.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

According to the arrest report, the two victims had been under the stairwell when they were approached by Hill, who was armed with a 9 mm firearm.

Deputies said Hill pointed the gun at the victims and ordered them to the ground.

He then grabbed the female victim by her hair and Durden pushed Hill in response, authorities said. Deputies said Hill then shot Durden in the chest, killing him, before fleeing the scene on a bicycle.

According to the report, after being taken into custody Thursday, Hill admitted to seeing the two victims “arguing” in the stairwell but provided a “self-serving statement, denying his involvement in the murder.”

As of Friday morning, Hill was being held at the Miami-Dade County Pre-Trial Detention Center.
