MIAMI — Miami police have arrested a man in connection with a violent attack that they said left another man critically injured last month.

The attack happened on Jan. 30 just before 5 a.m. near the 1100 block of West Flagler Street, in the city’s Riverside neighborhood.

The suspect was identified in an arrest report as 33-year-old Nickles St. Fleur.

Investigators say the victim was with St. Fleur and two unidentified men when one of the men told the victim to leave and pushed him.

They said the victim was then punched in the face, and after he fought back, St. Fleur and two other individuals began beating him for about nine minutes.

Police said surveillance video captured the attack.

They said video shows the men patting the victim down while he was on the ground and shows St. Fleur punching and kicking the victim in the head.

During the assault, one of the men was heard asking what was in the victim’s pocket and repeatedly demanding the passcode to his phone, according to the report.

After the attack, police said St. Fleur and one of the other men fled southbound through a parking lot, while the third man ran west toward 12th Avenue.

As they fled, one of the men was heard saying, “The way I kicked him, he’s going to die slow,” the report stated.

Despite his injuries, the victim was able to walk to a 7-Eleven at 812 SW 8th St., where police and Miami Fire Rescue responded.

Authorities said he was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center with “severe blunt force head injuries and significant intracranial hemorrhaging.”

They said he was intubated and remains unconscious in the intensive care unit.

Investigators said surveillance video from a nearby business clearly captured St. Fleur’s face. An officer recognized him from a previous robbery case in which St. Fleur had been the victim.

On Thursday, officers located St. Fleur near the 1100 block of Northwest First St., where they said they also found clothing consistent with what he was seen wearing during the attack — including torn light blue jeans. He was taken to MPD headquarters for questioning.

Police said St. Fleur denied taking part in the attack.

No other arrests have been announced, and a motive remains unclear at this time.

Jail records show St. Fleur is facing charges of second-degree attempted murder and strong-arm robbery.

He was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set” as of Friday morning.
