The suspect, identified as Dayron Ramirez-Mesa, 21, of southwest Miami-Dade, turned himself in on DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide charges on Thursday in connection with the Dec. 14 crash in the unincorporated Kendale Lakes area.

Investigators said Ramirez-Mesa was driving west on Southwest 56th Street just before 8:15 a.m. when he blew through a red light, sideswiping a Toyota 4Runner and T-boning a Hyundai Sonata as the two drivers tried to turn left from 122nd Avenue.

Investigators said the Hyundai driver, Dayana Abreu Perez, was badly hurt and died from her injuries at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital.

Deputies said Ramirez-Mesa smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot, watery eyes. According to an arrest report, the first of three blood draws put his blood alcohol content at .18%, more than twice the legal limit.

Additionally, deputies said internal data from the Cybertruck showed he was driving 97 mph three seconds before the crash.

After turning himself in on Thursday at the MDSO headquarters in Doral, Ramirez-Mesa was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

As of Friday, he remained there on a $75,000 bond. If released, a judge ordered that he be held on house arrest and put him under a no-drive order.
