MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — The family of an inmate who died a so-called “unclassified death” at the Dade Correctional Institution is now speaking out as officials keep details on his cause of death under wraps.

The facility faced controversy last year when seven corrections officers were arrested for beating a different inmate and trying to cover up the crime.

So what went down this time?

Ariel Munoz Gutierrez’s daughter, Imaris Munoz, told Local 10 News Sunday that a lot of things are not adding up since she learned of her father’s death this past Wednesday.

Munoz said her father was very fit and stayed active while serving out his current sentence for burglary.

She said she was supposed to see the results of an autopsy on Friday, but has since been given the run around, and now officials tell her that the autopsy won’t be ready for four to six weeks.

She says she believes corrections officers are responsible for his death.

“It just hurts because I’m never gonna see my father again,” Munoz said.

Local 10 reported in August how a judge ordered the arrest of seven corrections officers after they were accused of beating up inmate Christopher Castro, and trying to cover up the crime.

Local 10 has reached out to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement multiple times for comment, but we have not yet heard back.

A GoFundMe page has been created to assist Munoz Gutierrez’s family with funeral and memorial expenses.
