It happened just before 3 a.m. Monday along Hallandale Beach Boulevard just east of State Road 7,

According to investigators, the driver of a black Cadillac Escalade sped out of the Playhouse Strip Club parking lot in West Park and hit the deputy’s vehicle.

As the suspect was attempting to flee, authorities said he then backed into the deputy’s unit, striking it again, before speeding off.

That deputy was rushed to the hospital with injures, but the driver who hit him didn’t get far.

Authorities caught up with the suspect, identified as Mervin Coffy, 28, after the Escalade became disabled from the damage of the wreck.

Coffey is facing charges of fleeing and eluding, reckless driving with injuries, aggravated battery on an officer and resisting arrest.

He remains behind bars at the Broward Main Jail on no bond.
