MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A routine traffic stop in Northwest Miami-Dade quickly turned into a wild chase and crash Thursday afternoon, deputies said.
Cellphone video shows a white car trying to outrun a police van before appearing to roll over and slam into a fence. As the camera pans away, officers can be seen with guns drawn.
Angie Funez witnessed the chase near Northwest 95th Street and 27th Avenue.
“As soon as I walk out, I see vehicle and speeding and screeching,” Funez said. “You could, like, hear the boom booms and it was just, like, crazy.”
Deputies said the chaos began around 2:15 p.m. when they attempted a traffic stop near Northwest 98th Street and 22nd Avenue on a car reportedly connected to a burglary. Investigators said the driver sped through several blocks before losing control and crashing.
Funez said she and a client nearby were shaken by how close the crash happened.
Deputies arrested three people and transported them to the hospital. Investigators said a rifle and a handgun were also found inside the wrecked car.
“It’s horrible. It’s crazy to think of people out here driving like that and putting other people’s lives in danger,” Funez said.
The sheriff’s office did not share the condition of the driver in an SUV that was struck by the speeding car. No deputies were injured.
