MIAMI — The 62nd annual Coconut Grove Arts Festival is underway, showcasing a wide range of artwork from watercolor and oil paintings to metal sculptures and fabric pieces.
Organizers say 285 artists are participating this year, with about 40% of them new to the festival.
Kenneth Kudulis, a returning digital artist who traveled from Orlando, earned second place in the poster art category. Judges had stopped by his booth earlier in the day without him knowing to review his work.
“Winning gold is amazing. I love this show so much, but to place in it is incredible and I’m super honored,” Kudulis said.
Festival organizers say the selection process is highly competitive.
“We get 1,100 applications every year, and we curate with judges from around the country. So the best of the best are really here,” Executive Director Camille Marcheaz said.
The festival continues Monday.
