Mother accused of leaving young children in Uber for hours in Sunrise

Police: 2 children left in Uber for hours; mother arrested

SUNRISE, Fla. — A South Florida father says he is upset after his ex-partner allegedly left their two young children in an Uber for hours.

The man, who didn’t want to show his face on camera, said he learned what happened when a sergeant contacted his family.

“The sergeant called my mom explaining that my children’s mom was arrested and that she had left the children inside an Uber driver’s car while she was drunk or getting drunk,” he said.

Police arrested Emily Sabogal, 32, Friday night in Sunrise. She faces charges of child neglect and abandonment.

“I’m very concerned for the safety of my children,” the father said.

Sabogal appeared in court Sunday, where a judge set bond at $1,500 for each charge.

She posted bond and was released from jail.

The father said this is not the first time she has shown erratic behavior and that he plans to seek full custody of the children.

“Moving forward, she needs help. I don’t understand how someone in the right mind would do something like this,” he said. “She’s obviously not okay, and this needs to end.”
