SUNRISE, Fla. — An arrest report provides more details about what led up to a woman allegedly deserting her two children inside an Uber in Sunrise.

According to the report from the Sunrise Police Department, an officer responded to the 10800 block of Northwest 50th Street at about 11 p.m. Friday after the Uber driver called 911 and reported that his passenger had deserted her two children in his vehicle.

Police said the driver said he had picked up Emily Sabogal, 32, and her children at a shopping plaza along West Commercial Boulevard and that Sabogal was holding a cup at the time, which he believed to contain some kind of liquor.

“He thinks I’m stupid,” Sabogal kept repeating in Spanish, the report stated.

According to the report, Sabogal then reached over the center console, grabbed the driver’s phone and canceled the ride.

Police said she then gave the driver $10 in cash and asked him to stop the vehicle in the area of Northwest 108th Avenue and 50th Street.

According to the report, Sabogal exited the vehicle and told the driver she would be back in three minutes.

Police said the driver called Sabogal about an hour later after she failed to return and she told him she would be back in 12 minutes before hanging up the phone.

The driver tried calling her once more, but she didn’t answer, so he called 911 instead for assistance, authorities said.

According to the report, Sabogal’s two kids appeared to be in good health and spirits when an officer arrived, but said they were hungry and thirsty.

Police said Sabogal was eventually located walking outside a McDonald’s about 2.2 miles away.

According to the report, Sabogal could not explain why she left her two children with a stranger or how she arrived at the McDonald’s.

Police said they spoke with staff at Bob G’s Wings N’ Things on Commercial Boulevard, who confirmed that Sabogal was a regular at the business and had been there earlier that night with her kids. They claimed the children were running around the business unsupervised as Sabogal enjoyed multiple alcoholic beverages at the bar.

The children’s father spoke to Local 10 News over the weekend and said he is “very concerned for the safety of my children.”

The father said this is not the first time Sabogal has shown erratic behavior and he plans to seek full custody of the children.

Sabogal was arrested on charges of child neglect and abandonment. She was later released from jail after posting a $3,000 bond.
