Police fatally shot armed man after responding to argument in Fort Lauderdale

Investigation continues into fatal police shooting in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — An investigation remains ongoing after a police shooting occurred in Broward County over the weekend.

According to witnesses, what started as an argument between two people in the Lauderdale Manors community, which is located off Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, on Saturday around 12:30 p.m. led to someone calling the police.

That’s when police said something unexpected happened.

“While on scene, officers were approached by an armed adult male who was not a part of the initial disturbance,” said Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Bill Schultz.

Police said that armed man shot his gun, prompting three officers to return fire.

“The suspect, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the hospital,” said Schultz.

Home surveillance video near the scene showed two cars parked along Chateau Park Drive. A person can be seen in the street appearing to argue with someone about two minutes before police arrived.

Afterwards, an investigator was observed photographing bullet holes in a vehicle at the scene.

Evidence markers covered what were likely bullet shell casings.

“The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will be conducting this investigation into this shooting,” said Schultz.

Police have yet to identify the person killed in the shooting.
