According to an arrest report from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, the incident occurred Aug. 23, 2025.

Police said the victim claimed that he has been friends with Svante Strandberg, of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, for several years and on Aug. 23, they went to Dicey Riley’s Irish Pub with several friends.

But Strandberg got kicked out of the bar after pushing someone’s wife, authorities said.

Police said one of the victims followed Strandberg outside in an attempt to calm him down, but Strandberg began punching him in the face.

According to the report, the victim stepped in a small ditch as he struggled with Strandberg and broke his ankle.

Another friend then tried to stop Strandberg, but that victim ended up getting “put on his back,” by Strandberg before Strandberg began “throwing punches at him,” authorities said.

Police said one friend sustained a bloody nose while the other was hospitalized with a broken ankle that needed 10 metal screws inserted, as well as two metal anchor screws, causing permanent damage to the victim’s leg.

According to the report, the victim who suffered the broken ankle didn’t file a police report until Oct. 27 because he believed a police report had already been filed the night of the incident by the officer who responded to the scene. He told police he wanted to press charges against Strandberg.

Strandberg faces charges of felony battery causing great bodily harm and misdemeanor battery.

As of Monday afternoon, he was being held at the Broward County Main Jail on a $12,500 bond.
