MARGATE, Fla. — Margate police arrested a man over the weekend after accusing him of disturbing behavior near a convenience store, according to court documents obtained by Local 10 News on Tuesday.
According to police, a girl told officers that at around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, a man “wearing blue shorts, a dark grey hoodie, slides, with a grey bag and a skateboard” approached her outside of the 7-Eleven at 4998 W. Atlantic Blvd. and “surprised her” as he came up to her from behind.
An arrest report states that the girl, who is under 16, told officers that the stranger “asked her to go into the woods” so she could perform oral sex on him.
Police said she began recording the interaction on her phone as the man continued to follow her. Authorities said the video showed him within arm’s reach of her, making multiple references to his “penis” and saying that he “keeps asking girls to have sex, but they deny him.”
Authorities said the girl remained silent throughout the interaction, during which she told officers she was “in fear for her safety.”
Police said he eventually ran across Atlantic Boulevard and rode his skateboard toward Coconut Creek.
Investigators said they were able to identify the man in the video from “multiple previous trespass incidents” as Christopher Michael Grant, 28, of Plantation.
According to the report, the victim later picked him out of a photo lineup.
Police said on Sunday, officers spotted Grant riding his skateboard near the Wawa at 2000 N. State Road 7, wearing the same clothes as he did during the incident.
Authorities said he “denied speaking with (the girl) and denied being in the area of the 7-Eleven” on Friday.
According to the report, an officer showed Grant a still frame from the video and Grant “did not deny that it was him in the photo and then admitted that he was around the 7-Eleven and walked past (the girl), but didn’t speak with her.”
Police took Grant into custody on charges of promoting the sexual activity of a victim under 16 years old and harmful communication with a minor.
As of Tuesday morning, he remained in the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail on a $20,000 bond.
