Miami Beach police chief postpones retirement

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Miami Beach commissioners voted on Wednesday on an item that allows Police Chief Wayne A. Jones to postpone his retirement for two more years.

Commissioners voted unanimously to extend his participation in the deferred retirement option program, a pension plan for public employees.

Jones, a 27-year Miami Beach Police Department veteran, was sworn in as chief on Sept. 1, 2023, after serving as patrol officer, detective, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, major, and deputy chief.
