MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a Doral Police Department veteran on Wednesday in Miami-Dade County’s Redland area, according to sources familiar with the case.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel responded shortly after 6:20 a.m. on Wednesday to the area of Southwest 157th Avenue and 160 Street.

“Detectives can confirm that there is no foul play suspected,” Detective Daniel D. Castillo, a spokesman for MDSO, wrote in a statement.
A group of motormen escorted a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue freightliner ambulance through the Richmond Heights-Redland area.

The caravan traveled northbound on the Florida Turnpike and the Palmetto Expressway, and eastbound on the Dolphin Expressway.
As the ambulance carrying the police officer passed, colleagues rendered a hand salute. A large U.S. flag was flying high from a fire truck’s elevated ladder.

A U.S. flag covered the police officer’s body upon arrival at the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office in Allapattah.
