WEST MIAMI, Fla. — A family had trusted Arays Izquierdo so much that they gave her a key to their home in West Miami, and she betrayed them by stealing more than $268,000 in jewels, according to police.
A Van Cleef & Arpels necklace, two Louis Vuitton bracelets valued at nearly $150,000, and a gold bracelet valued at $95,650, were among the pieces that Izquierdo stole while working as the family’s housekeeper, according to a police officer’s arrest report.
“She had pawned multiple items consistent with property reported missing by the victim,” a West Miami police officer wrote, according to the report.
Police officers recently searched Izquierdo’s apartment in Hialeah and found “multiple items that had previously been reported missing from the victim’s residence,” according to police.
The property was in Izquierdo’s “bedroom and closet and was recovered as part of the investigation,” a police officer wrote, according to the arrest report.
The victims reported that Izquierdo also took a 24-karat gold knot chain, Cartier bracelets, two Cuban link chains, a custom-made bracelet with a diamond, according to the police report.
The list also included a nail necklace by Cartier, a Capricorn pendant, a pair of white gold diamond earrings, and a gold diamond necklace.
Court records show Miami police officers arrested Izquierdo on Nov. 21 and accused her of first-degree misdemeanor petit theft at a Target in the Flagami neighborhood. Miami-Dade prosecutors dropped the case.
Shortly before 9 a.m. on Aug. 20, Hialeah and West Miami police officers detained Izquierdo at her apartment, according to a police report.
Corrections booked Izquierdo shortly after 12:40 a.m. on Friday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, according to Miami-Dade inmate records.
Izquierdo faced charges of burglary of an occupied dwelling and first-degree grand theft, according to Miami-Dade court records. A judge ordered her to stay away from the family in West Miami. Her bond was $20,000.
Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Tanya Brinkley was set to preside over the case.
