FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Richard Campbell, who has served as Lauderhill’s vice mayor since voters elected him in 2022, walked out of the Broward County Main Jail on Tuesday afternoon in Fort Lauderdale.

Lauderhill police officers arrested Campbell, 70, on Monday after a domestic violence investigation. He appeared before Broward County Circuit Judge Corey B. Friedman on Tuesday morning.

“He is going to fight this. We believe there is a lot more to this that is political in nature,” Attorney Eric Schwartzreich said outside the jail.

Campbell, a physical therapist who served as commissioner from 2018 to 2020, has been campaigning for the election of the Lauderhill commission’s seat four on Nov. 3rd.

Before his arrest, Campbell told Local 10 News on Monday that the alleged victim was his ex-girlfriend, who refused to move out of his home for months.

Campbell faced charges of harassing a witness, a first-degree misdemeanor, and domestic battery, also a first-degree misdemeanor.

Friedman ordered Campbell to stay away from the victim of the alleged incident on Aug. 3 and her family. His bond was $7,500.
