MIAMI — Mourners on Wednesday in Miami described a recent shooting victim as a beloved 25-year-old DJ who was born in the Dominican Republic.
Melvin Diaz Cepeda was fatally shot at about 5 a.m. on Monday at a home at 4606 NW 5th Ave., near the Design District, according to the Miami Police Department.
Christina Marie Hernandez described Diaz Cepeda as a good friend who knew the shooter as a fellow DJ.
“They knew each other; I have a picture of them together,” Hernandez said.
Lt. Pete Sanchez, a spokesman for Miami Fire Rescue, said firefighters pronounced Diaz Cepeda dead. Officer Kenia Fallat, a spokeswoman for MPD, said detectives questioned one person.
Miami homicide detectives suspect Diaz Cepeda was an intruder at the shooter’s home.
“I don’t believe it; neither does his mother, who I am in communication with. Neither does any single person who genuinely knew him,” Hernandez said.
