Walmart is boosting its pay scale for a hard to fill position that will pay beginners $88,000 a year.

After that first year, the national retailer will pay long-haul truck drivers up to $110,000 a year to deliver goods to stores all over the country.

Last year, the company hired more than 4,500 drivers for its trucking fleet. It employs more than 12,000 truck drivers.

Companies across the country have raised pay to recruit drivers and stay competitive in the last few years, because of increased demand in online ordering during the pandemic.

In 2020, the median pay for tractor-trailer drivers was $47,000, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics data.
