MIAMI — A 33-year-old man wanted in connection with a 2024 homicide in Birmingham, Alabama was arrested Monday in Miami, according to police.

Julian Taylor Morris, of Jonesboro, Georgia, was taken into custody Monday by the U.S. Marshals in Miami. He was arrested on a murder charge in the death of Deundray Cottrell, according to authorities.

Morris is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami pending extradition to Alabama. He is being held without bond, according to officials.

Cottrell was reported missing July 4, 2024. He was found dead two days later in the East Precinct area of Birmingham. His death was ruled a homicide, according to police.

Police have not identified the relationship between the suspect and victim.

“This arrest, as well as the other arrest on cases from previous years, show how relentless our department is and how dedicated our officers are. We never stop working for justice,” Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett said.

“We will continue to pursue those responsible for violent crimes, no matter where they may run. We will continue to seek justice for Deundray Cottrell and his family and remain committed to holding those responsible accountable,” Pickett said.
