Thousands of spectators gathered along the iconic 5½-mile route to watch elaborate floral floats, world-class marching bands and equestrian units celebrate the dawn of 2026.

Despite unusual rainy weather for this time of year, revelers and participants were determined to keep spirits high. Forecasters warned that this could be the first New Year’s Day rainfall at the parade in nearly two decades, but organizers and fans alike pressed on with the festivities.

A Tradition of Pageantry

The parade kicked off at 11 a.m. EST, with florally adorned floats and vibrant marching bands.

This year’s theme, “The Magic in Teamwork,” highlights the collaborative effort behind every entry, from the volunteers who build the floats to the performers and musicians who bring the pageant to life.

Leading the celebration was NBA Hall of Famer Earvin “Magic” Johnson, who served as this year’s Grand Marshal, a role honoring his storied career and community impact.

After the two-hour parade wrapped up, many attendees visited Floatfest, where decorated floats remain on display for close-up viewing.
