Three Republicans and two Democrats are looking to unseat U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody, R-Florida, and will face off in a primary on Tuesday night.
Moody was Florida’s attorney general before being appointed to the seat in 2025 after her predecessor, Marco Rubio, was confirmed as U.S. secretary of state.
She’s touting accomplishments during her time in the seat, including rolling back regulations to help Florida’s citrus industry and bringing in billions of dollars in disaster relief.
She is facing three Republican challengers: Chris Gleason, a U.S. Army veteran and data forensics expert who says he has experience “exposing corruption and fraud;” physician Neelam Taneja Perry, who says she’s “fighting for the rights of the people”; and Pastor Ernie Rivera, who says his background in finance and as a licensed housing manager could help curb South Florida’s affordability problems.
State Rep. Angie Nixon, D-Jacksonville, is a six-year state lawmaker and a Florida native. She says she will fight to make life more affordable for all Floridians, saying the economy should work for everyone.
Her campaign cornerstone is putting people over politics and profit.
Alex Vindman, a retired Army lieutenant colonel, moved to Florida with his wife and daughter three years ago. He was wounded in Iraq and received a Purple Heart and is known for testifying during President Donald Trump’s first impeachment.
He said his campaign is promising to rekindle the American dream for Floridians, with a spotlight on affordability — from making sure buying a home is attainable to driving down health care costs.
